attractive back in the day

I thought I'd share something really interesting with you all.

I knew that curvy figures were considered more attractive in the 1950s and 60s, but just recently came across the evidence. As you can see here, women were trying to GAIN weight. It seems impossible to think about now!

I've read lots of articles praising these ads, but they honestly aren't any different from weight loss ads we see now- the body types are just switched. Weight loss ads imply that there's something wrong with being overweight, which isn't necessarily true. These ads here are implying there's something wrong with being skinny.

These ads are so interesting to look at, but I don't think they should be praised- just because a curvier body type is easier to achieve doesn't make the other one wrong.

What do you think?

  1. You are absolutely right... it seems like people forget about the girls that are naturally skinny and CAN'T get weight... :\ And why praise these kind of ads? I think the best would be if everyone would feel good with who they really are, but naturally, not because an ad said so :)

    Great post! :)

  2. Wow, that's super interesting. It's crazy how times change!
